JUS AD BELLUM:
is the right to go to war.
JUS IN BELLO:
is the law governing the waging of war and the treatment of combatants and civilians in time of war.
THE LAW OF THE HAGUE:
determines the rights and duties of combatants in the conduct of their military operations and limit the choice of the means of doing harm.
THE LAW OF THE GENEVA:
aims to protect combatants no longer engaged in the conflict, and civilians not involved the hostilities, and is founded on the principle that people on actively involve in armed conflict should be treated humanely
FOUR GENEVA CONVENTIONS:
- to ameliorate the condition of the wounded and sick in armed forces in the field,
- the wounded, sick and shipwrecked members of armed forces at sea
- to regulate the treatment of prisoner-of-wars
- to protect civilians in the time of war.

WHAT IS A PRISONER OF WAR?
is neither a criminal nor a hostage but someone who is held for the sole purposes of preventing him from rejoining the enemy’s armed forces.
ARTICLE 50 provides that:
where there is doubt of whether a person is a civilian, that person shall be considered as a civilian
