List any five issues concerning the living conditions that was caused by urbanisation in Britain duing the industial revolution.
The rise in population of the cities gives rise to many problems; air and water pollution being the major issues. Others problems created by urbanization include, increased crime rates, poverty, deforestation, and the formation of slums (considered to be one of the worst effects of urbanization).
Give a definition of migrant.
a person who moves from one place to another, especially in order to find work or better living conditions.
Give a definition of the term Compound system .
A compound system was a type of accomodation fo migrantt wokers who worked on the mine . It was very small and had a basic toilet and bathroom facilities that was occupied by four to six man.
Explain why the mine owners prefered this system.
They introduced this to:
* reduce the number of thefts from the mines
* To ensure a regular supply of disciplined labour to operate the mining machinery efficently and to its full capaity. Thi necessary because diamond mining now took place ungerground..
* allow for full time workplace supervision in order to maximise the amount of labour that mine owners could get out of their workplace.
