Q
How do ethical standards and legal standards differ? Which are we held to as professional psychologists?
A
- Ethical standards are what one should and should not do according to the principles or norms of professional conduct
- The law is what must and what not do according to legal dictates
- We are held to both, more specifically, the ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct
- E.g. interrogations: it is legal, but not ethical
- Creation of test, and see who in the company had a mental illness to fire them. This is legal, but not ethical.
