  • “Catholic” means:- universal – the Church is for everyone

You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve – you are breaking this commandment when you want to become very wealthy and you don’t care how the wealth is gained, even if it hurts others; when you freely donate time and money to worthy charities you are keeping the commandment; when Jesus rejected Satan’s temptations, he was keeping the commandment
  2. You shall not kill – a person who bullies and puts down another person is breaking the spirit of this law; a person who does not put down other people is following the commandment
  3. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy – you go against this commandment when you skip mass, maybe when you’re on holiday
  4. You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor’s – you go against this commandment when you find a friend’s wallet full of cash and you can’t stop thinking about it; you are breaking the commandment when you are jealous of the power and wealth of a neighbor; you are following the commandment when you are happy your neighbor got a new computer she has been needing
  5. You shall not steal – you are following the commandment when you find $1000.00 on the street and turn it into the police to try and find the rightful owner
  6. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor – you are breaking the commandment when you spread rumors about other people
  7. You shall not commit adultery – when you keep a faithful covenant of marriage you are keeping this commandment; when you cheat on your wife/husband with another person you are breaking this commandment

Forgiveness?

  • is the same as reconciliation
  • God is always willing to forgive our sins, but we are not able to accept ​forgiveness until we admit that we have done something wrong
  • God calls us to forgive other people by praying for those who have hurt ​us​
  • Forgiveness: helps us to do what God wants, repairs our relationship ​with God, and is desiring what is good for someone even after she or he ​has hurt us
  • we are ALWAYS called to forgive others

  • the greatest influence on self-concept is the way you see yourself
  • when you exhibit a strong belief in your own capabilities you are displaying self-confidence
  • if you are critical of yourself you are displaying low self-esteem
  • genuine, sincere and positive messages make us feel capable and loveable
  • stereotype – when someone sets an inaccurate expectation for themselves or of someone else (i.e. Mary expects to get low marks in math and science)
  • you are displaying positive self-concept when you feel confident to try new ways of approaching a problem, even when you have occasionally failed
