Holistic Care

Primary nursing
One nurse is assigned to several patients or residents and is responsible for all of their care
Functional (modular) nursing
Each member of the nursing team carries out the same assigned task for each patient
Team Nursing
A team leader determines all of the nursing needs of the patients and assigns tasks to each member of the team based on that individual’s skill level and level of responsibility
Patient-centered care
Designed around the needs of the patient and works to meet that persons needs more efficiently. Members of the team are cross-trained to preform various tasks.

A document that allows a person to make their healthcare wishes known to family members and healthcare workers, in case the time comes that the person is no longer able to make those decisions
Durable Power of Attorney
Transfers the responsibility of making medical decisions on the persons behalf to a family member, friend or trusted individual, in case the time comes that the person is no longer able to make those decisions
Living will
Allows the person to give instructions about what medical treatments they would or would not want done in an effort to save their life

Laws concerned with relationships between individuals
Criminal Law
Laws concerned with the relationship between the individual and society
Unintentional tort
Occurs when a person causes harm or injury to another person or that person’s property without the intention to cause harm
Intentional tort
A violation of civil law committed by a person with the intent to do harm
Defamation
Making untrue statements that hurt another persons reputation
Assault
Threatening or attempting to touch a person without his consent, causing that person to fear bodily harm
Battery
Touching a person without their consent

Implies a person has been informed of the need for a procedure or treatment and has given permission to perform that treatment

Deception that could cause harm to another person

Violating another person’s right to keep certain information and aspects of themselves away from the examination of others
