What are the functions of the uterus?

A

It is the organ where women will house the baby, placenta, and amniotic fluid during pregnancy. If no egg is fertilized, the uterus will shed its inner lining resulting in mensuration.

What is a Pap test screening for?

A

Important for sexually active women to get a pap test or women who are 21 or older. It is testing for cervical cancer. Often goes undetected until late stages, so important to test regularly.

A

To check for prostate cancer. It is a very common cancer in males and if left undetected can have serious health consequences.

How do contraceptives work?

A

They block the sperm, disable the sperm, or suppress ovulation.

Why are contraceptive options limited for men?

A

Due to genetics. Since men produce hundreds of millions of sperm per day, it would be hard to limit the fertility. However, women only release one egg each month and can be more easily controlled with contraceptives.

What is emergency contraception? How long after sexual activity can it be taken?

A

Emergency contraception is used when a condom breaks or if you have unprotected sex. This is also referred to as “the morning after pill” or ‘‘plan b”. You can take it up to 3-5 days after sexual intercourse.

Explain how the abortion pill works

A

It can be taken within the first 11 weeks of pregnancy. You take two types of medication. One will block the production of progesterone to stop pregnancy from developing. The second is taken the same day or the next day and causes cramping and bleeding which empties the uterus.

A

A doctor or nurse will empty your uterus using suction from medical instruments.

A

Sexually transmitted infection and sexually transmitted blood borne infection

A

A spontaneous loss of pregnancy within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.

A

The STI or STBBI could be passed down from mother to baby during child birth. Could also jeopardize a woman’s ability to have a child in their life.
