Student Motivation & Learning Environment Flashcards
The pattern which human motivations generally move through.
Hierarchy of Needs
Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, Self-actualization.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Learned to behave helplessly, even when opportunity for change has been restored.
Learned Helplessness
Belief of one’s own competence.
Self-Efficacy
Individual’s behavior modified by consequences.
Operant Conditioning
Strengthing a behavior immediately after the occurrence.
Reinforcement
Adding of a preferred stimulus to increase behavior.
Positive Reinforcement
Taking away of an aversive stimulus to increase behavior.
Negative Reinforcement
Any change that occurs after a given behavior or response reducing likelihood of that behavior occurring again in the future.
Punishment
Previously learned response is eliminated when cue presented in absence of previously paired aversive or pleasant stimulus.
Extinction
Process of keeping someone from doing something.
Prevention
Increasingly accurate approximations of a response desired.
Successive Approximations
Conditioning procedure used by Skinner to analyze behavior.
