Structures and Functions of Neurons Flashcards
What is the function of sensory neurons? Where are they found?
They carry impulses from receptors to relay neurons
Found in receptors such as the eyes, ears, tongue and skin
How are sensory neurons structured?
Receptor cell > Myelinated axon > Cell body > Axon terminals
What is the function of relay neurons? Where are they found?
To carry signals from sensory neurons to motor neurons
Found in the brain and spinal cord
How are relay neurons structured?
Dendrite > Cell body > Non-myelinated axon > Pre synaptic axon terminal
What is the function of motor neurons? Where are they found?
To control muscle movements by recieving the signals produced to activate effector muscles
Found in the CNS
How are motor neurons structured?
Dendrite > Cell body > Myelinated axon > Node of ranvier > Effector cell
