Structure of the Tooth Flashcards
Trigeminal nerve
each of the fifth and largest pair of cranial nerves, supplying the front part of the head and dividing into the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves.
Ophthalmic nerves
V3; The ophthalmic nerve supplies sensory innervation to the structures of the eye, including the cornea, ciliary body, lacrimal gland, and conjunctiva. It also supplies nerves to the part of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, and to the skin of the eyelids, eyebrow, forehead, and nose
Maxillary nerve
V2; The maxillary nerve is the second division of the trigeminal nerve and is also known as the V2 division. This nerve is the middle division of the trigeminal nerve and is attached to the distal convex border of the trigeminal ganglion. The maxillary nerve exits from the cranial cavity through the foramen rotundum.
Mandibular Nerves
V1; The mandibular nerve innervates the lower face including the mandible, lower teeth, and oral mucosa, the anterior two-thirds of the tongue, lower lip, temporomandibular joint, the mastication muscles, and some smaller muscles, the skin of the temporal region, an area of the auricle and external acoustic meatus.
Block Injection
Blocking a section of the nerve
Infiltration Injection
Often used with the upper teeth; only use around the tooth that’s getting worked on
PDL Injection
Goes into the PDL
