Q

describe what happens when electrons gain energy

A

When electrons are given the ‘right’ amount of energy, they absorb it, and jump to a higher energy level. The ‘right’ amount of energy = energy difference between 2 levels. Electrons don’t like being excited, they return to the lower energy level and emit (release) the energy. This energy is electromagnetic radiation.
