what do the black lines show on a hydrogen spectrum?
they show electrons that absorbed energy and moved to higher energy levels
describe what happens when electrons gain energy
When electrons are given the ‘right’ amount of energy, they absorb it, and jump to a higher energy level. The ‘right’ amount of energy = energy difference between 2 levels. Electrons don’t like being excited, they return to the lower energy level and emit (release) the energy. This energy is electromagnetic radiation.
