Structure of viruses

A
  • contain nucleic acids but can only replicate inside host cell
  • They are enclosed in a protein coat called the CAPSID
  • Some viruses, like the HIV virus are surrounded by a lipid envelope. These have attachment proteins which are essential to allow the virus to identify and attach to a host cell
