Structure of Earth: The Earth's core, mantle and crust: Flashcards
What is Earth’s structure made up of?
It is made up of three layers which are the core, mantle and crust.
What area is the mantle?
It is the area of hot molten rock beneath earth’s crust
Where is the core allocated? How many parts does does it have and what are their names
It is allocated at the centre of the earth, it has 2 parts which are the inner core and the outer core.
What are the 2 types of crust?
Oceanic and continental crust
Which is thinner oceanic or continental crust?
Oceanic crust is thinner
What is oceanic crust made up of?(like actually made up of)
Oceanic crust is made up of heavier rocks which are rich in iron and magnesium.
What is the hottest part of the earth?
The inner core is the hottest part of earth
What is the inner core made out of?
It is made up of iron and nickel
Where is the mantle allocated?
It is allocated between the crust and the core
What is the mantle made up of?(like actually)
It is made up of minerals rich in iron, silica, magnesium and oxygen.
What the is crust made up of?(like actually)
The crust is made up of igneous rock, rich in iron and magnesium
How thick is the mantle?
It’s about 2900 km thick
How thick is the upper mantle?
It’s about 670 km thick
How thick is the lower mantle?
It is about 2 230 km thick
How thick is the crust?
It ranges from 5 to 70 km in depth and has variable thickness
