A
Made of less dense, spongy (cancellous) bone tissue. This type of bone encloses red bone marrow, where blood cells are formed.

A
A layer of cartilage that covers the epiphysis to protect the bone surface at a joint. This thin layer of fibrous tissue nourishes and protects the bone and also generates new bone cells for growth and repair.
