legisative process key stages
A
- first reading - bill is formally introduced
- second reading - main opportunity for debate, questioning and voting - in December 2017 the commons voted 309 to 305 to give parliament the final say on the final Brexit deal
- committee stage - chance to go over the bill and go over any amendments made at second reading - each bill given its own public bill committee
- report stage - last chance for mps to make any amendments
- third reading - short debate, no further changed can be made, a final vote is made before going onto royal assent
