Q

Epididymis

A

An intricate network of coiled ducts on the posterior portion of each testis that is approximately 6m (20ft) in length. It is here that sperm mature.

Q

Gametes

A

Sex cells, produced by men in the testes and by women in the ovaries.
Men= spermatozoa (sperm)
Women= Ova (egg)
Each contain 1/2 of the genetic material needed to produce a human baby.

16
Q

Prepuce

A

Foreskin, covers the glans

17
Q

Seminiferous tubules

A

Tiny coils of tissue in which spermatogenesis occurs. Interstitial cells surround the seminiferous tubules and produce the androgen testosterone, which is necessary for the maturation of sperm.

18
Q

Uterus

A
19
Q

Vagina

A
20
Q

Vas Deferens

A

The muscular tube in which sperm begin their journey out of the man’s body. Connects the epididymis with the ejaculatory duct. It is sheathed in the spermatic cord, the left is usually longer than the right so the left testis hangs lower.

21
Q

Discuss major functions of each reproductive structure, gland, and organ for both men and women.

A
22
Q

Describe the path of sperm through a man’s reproductive system from the site of formation to ejaculation from the body.

A
23
Q

Describe the process of semen production.

A
24
Q

Compare hormonal regulation of reproductive functions in men and women.

A
25
Q

Illustrate the interrelationships of the ovarian and uterine cycles and the overall menstrual cycle.

A
26
Q

Describe and compare the sexual response cycles of women and men.

A
27
Q

Follicles-stimulating hormone

A

Anterior pituitary. Stimulates production of sperm in the seminiferous tubules.

28
Q

Interstitial cell-stimulating hormone

A

Anterior pituitary. Stimulates the interstitial cells to secrete testosterone.

29
Q

Testosterone

A

Interstital cells. Assists sperm in maturing. Influences the development of secondary sex charecteristics. (Facial and pubic hair growth, deepening of the voice, growth of the penis)

30
Q

Spermatic cord

A

leads into the abdominal cavity through the inguinal canal, arches over the urinary bladder, and then curves downward on the posterior side of the bladder. It is at this point that the vas deferens joins with the ejaculatory duct. The paired ejaculatory ducts then connect with the urethra, which transports the sperm out of the man’s penis during ejaculation

31
Q

Seminal vesicles

A

Paired glands that empty an alkaline, fructose-rich fluid into the ejaculatory ducts during ejaculation.

32
Q

Prostate

A

A. Muscular gland, approximately the size of a chestnut, which surrounds the first part of the urethra as it exits the urinary bladder.
