Structure and Bonding Flashcards
1
Q
What is the strength of LDF related to?
A
the number of electrons within a molecule
2
Q
What must occur between all molecular elements, compounds and monatomic elements?
A
some attraction forces
3
Q
London Dispersion Force:
A
- exists between all atoms/ molecules
- weakest type of intermolecular bond
- caused by an uneven distribution of electrons within an atom, one side being partially negative and the other being partially positive
- set up between partially negative side of one atom and partially positive side of another
4
Q
Hydrogen Bonding:
A
- strongest type of intermolecular bond
- present only when Hydrogen (H) bonds with Nitrogen(N), Fluorine(F) or Oxygen(O)
5
Q
Permanent Dipole- Permanent Dipole Bonding:
A
- present only if the elements writhing the bond have a difference in electronegativity (if a bond contains two different elements)
- described as POLAR
