deductive / inductive reasoning
Inductive reasoning takes you from the specific to the general, while in deductive reasoning, you make inferences by going from general premises to specific conclusions.
syllogism
a deductive scheme of a formal argument consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion

An absolute phrase is a group of words that modifies an independent clause as a whole
juxtaposition
the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.
