Look after specific projects or look after small teams

They perform the tasks asked to be carried out

Long chain of command
Higher organisational structure
Communication is slow
Each manager has a narrow span of control
What does a flat structure have
Short chain of command
Communication is quick
Managers have to manage many employees
Centralised
One person at the top making all key desicions
What is an advantage of centralised
Good overview of the whole business and will be experienced
Policies will be uniform
Disadvantage of decentralised
Communication can take along time
Filter through the layers
Organisation takes along time to change
Decentralised
Authority to make decisions is shared out
Advantage to make decentralised
Decisions are quicker
Employees can have input
Important in competitive markets
