To Wundt, Psychology was the scientific study of the conscious experience that is the first person perspective of a mental event e.g a memory.
What was the Goal of Psychology to Wundt?
To identify the components of consciousness and how these combined to result in our conscious experience.
What is Structuralism?
It is a school of thought that aims to understand human consciousness by examining its underlying components.
What did Structuralists hope to achieve?
By identifying basic and underdeveloped components and how they operate together it is possible to understand human behavior.
What was Wundt’s Method?
He used introspection, participants were presented with certain stimuli and had to objectively look inward to report feelings, sensations, and perceptions.
It is a process by which one examines themselves objectively, making the human mind like any other aspect of nature that can be observed.
