Simple Sentence
Contains one clause with a subject and verb, covening information concisely and directly.
Compound Sentence
Contains two independent clauses that are related and joined with conjunction, allowing for the connection of ideas and adding complexity to the narrative
Complex sentence
Contains one or more subordinate clauses, allowing for the ideas and the introduction.
Narrative voice
The perspective from which the story is told, shaping the reader’s understanding and interpretation of events
Listing
Presents a number of connected items written one after the other, emphasising a particular quality or ideas by repetition or accumulation
Shift in focus
Changes the narrative focus within or between paragraphs, directing the reader’s attention to different aspects of the story and advancing the plot or theme
Long/short sentences
Varying the length of sentences dds rhythm and pace to the text, conveying different aspects of the story and advancing the plot or theme
Zooming in/ Zooming out
Narrows or widens the narrative focus, controlling the level of detail and perspective to highlight specific aspects of the story or convey a broader view.
Triple
Using three adjectives or phrases to describe something, intensifying the description and creating a memorable and impactful image
Pathetic fallacy
Attribute human emotions to nature or inanimate objects, reflecting or mirroring the emotional state of character or events in the narrative
Juxtapostiton
Places two thing together to highlight their contrasting qualities or to draw attention to a particular theme or add, creating depth and complexity in the text.
Beginning/Middle/End
Divides the narrative into distinct sections, establishing structure and pacing while guiding the reader through the progression of events
