What is narrative perspective?
The person telling the story (first person/third person/omniscient narrator)
What is setting?
Where the action/story is set - it can change
What are shifts in focus?
Moving our attention away from one thing to another
What is Exterior to Interior (or vice versa)
Moving from inside to outside or what is going on to a person’s thoughts
What is dialogue?
Speech, which can allow us to learn more about the characters who speak.
What is an order of events?
Sequence of what happens in the text
What is foreshadowing?
Hints to what might happen next
What is a flashback?
Looking at something which happened in the past
What is zooming in?
The writer narrowing down our focus on something to draw our attention to it
What is cyclical structure?
The text mentions something from the beginning of the text again at the end.
What is In Medius Res?
Starting in the middle of the action
