Where the story/action is set (setting can change)

Moving our attentiom away from something.

Changes in point of view or what can be seen by different characters.
Exterior to enterior(or vice versa)
Moving from inside to outside - or from what is going on in different peoples thoughts.
Dialogue
Speech. This allows us to learn more about the characters who speak.

Sequence of what happens in the text

Hints to what might happen next

Looking at what had happened in the past

The writer narrows our focus onto something to draw our attentiom to it.

The text that mentions something from the beginning of the text again at the end
