When you go back in time

The writer gives clues to reader about something that may happen in future
Zoom in
The writer focus on particular detail - shows its something important
e.g. see a forest but might focus on an animal in the forest
Zoom out
Used to talk about the setting
Dialouge
Characters are talking
Change in tone
For example has it gone from a happy tone to sad
Words to describe a positive tone
Energetic Enthusiastic Humorous Illuminating Light Light hearted Respectful
Words to describe a negative tone
Dark Elegiac Foreboding Gloomy Tense
Short sentence
A sentence that’s short
it can be used to build tension
Long sentence
Used to add detail and slow the pace down
Explain why the writer can use long and short paragraphs
They stand out from the rest of the paragraphs
Shift in focus
Change the thing you are talking about - used to describe setting
e.g. the table then the chair
Cyclical structure
Start and end in same/similar way
Juxta position
Something changing from a paragraph to another - Then talk about how it changed over the paragraphs
Extended metaphor
Talk about the length of the metaphor and what it does
