What is linear structure
Linear structure is where events are put in chronological order. This makes it clear for the reader to understand what’s happening
What is cyclical structure?
Cyclical structure is where the text begins and finishes with the same theme
What is pathetic fallacy?
Pathetic fallacy is where the weather reflects the mood. If somebody died, then clouds and rain could appear
What is foreshadowing?
Foreshadowing is where events during the text hint at events which could possibly occur later on
What is narrative perspective?
Narrative perspective refers to the perspective of how the text is narrated. This is first person , second person or third person
What is tense change?
Tense change is where the text is changed from one tense to another through the text. These tenses could be past present or future
What is a flashback?
Flashbacks talk about the past as if they are happening at the moment
What is a flashforward?
A flash forward is where the text goes right to the end without telling the reader what happens in between
What is sentence length?
Sentence length is where the length of a sentence varies. For example one sentence could be a compound sentence, simple sentence, minor sentence or complex sentence
What is zooming in?
Zooming in is where the writer goes into more detail than usual about a certain event or theme throughout the text
What is zooming out?
Zooming out is where you focus on the whole theme instead of one part of it
What is speech?
Speech is used to tell the reader what a character is saying during the text
What are the 2 different types of speech
Direct speech and reported speech
What are turning points?
Turning points are where a point in a text changes dramatically
