Strong And Weak Acids Flashcards
1
Q
What is ionisation?
A
When an acid molecule splits
2
Q
What’s a strong acid?
A
A strong acid is an acid that is fully ionised (so it’s fully split up)
3
Q
What is a weak acid?
A
A weak acid is an acid that does not fully ionise
So some hydrogen is still left
4
Q
Example of strong acid reaction
A
HCL —-> H + Cl
The hydrogen has fully split of
So fully ionised
Therefore the acid is a strong acid
5
Q
Example of weak acid reaction
A
H2Co3 —> H + HCO3
There was 2 hydrogen molecules
1 has split one is still attached
The molecule hasn’t fully ionised
Therefore the acid is a weak acid
