L side - R hemiparesis, R hemi-sensory loss, aphasia, eye deviate to L (frontal eye fields)
R side - L hemiparesis, L semi-sensory loss, neglect, eyes deviate to R
MCA
same as ACA but arms and face > legs
Vert Artery
LATERAL MEDULLARY STROKE
ipsilateral pain, ipsilateral dec pain/temp sensation of face
Contralateral loss of pain/temp in body
ipsilateral horner
nystagmus
Lean to side of lesion
Basilar
BILATERAL PONTINE
Quadriparesis and gaze palsy
Cerebellar
Ipsilateral arm dysmetria
gait ataxia and dysarthria
PCA
L side - R homonymous hemianopia w/ macular sparing
R side - L homonymous hemianopia w/ macular sparing +/- L sided neglect
Splenium of Corpus Collosum
Often w/ PCA
alexia w/o agraphia
4 Types of Lacunar Strokes
1- pure motor (posterior limb of internal capsule)
2- pure sensory
3- dysarthria + clumsy hand
4- ataxic hemiparesis
Broca’s Aphasia
L MCA superior division
- comprehension, no repetition, not fluent
Wernicke’s Aphasia
L MCA inferior division
- fluent, no repetition, no comprehension
Transcortical Aphasias (3)
Transcortical motor - near Broca’s in frontal lobe
Transcortical sensory - near Wernicke’s in temporal
Transcortical mixed - both areas
CAN REPEAT
Global Aphasia
Broca + Wernicke + arcuate fasiculus
Conduction Aphasia
Can comprehend and are fluent but no repetition
