stroke Flashcards
TACS
–hemiparesis, hemisensoryloss, hemianopia and higher cortical dysfunction
usually cardiac emboli
• PACS
–two of hemiparesis, hemi sensory loss, hemianopia and higher cortical dysfunction
or higher cortical dysfunction only
usually large vessel disease eg carotids
LACS
–puremotor (post limb of internal capsule)
- puresensory (post thalamus)
- motorsensory (internal capsule)
ataxic hemiparesis
usually small vessel disease ie atheroma in situ
POCS
–posterior circulation event:
Cranial nerve palsy and a contralateral motor/sensory deficit
Bilateral motor/sensory deficit
Conjugate eye movement disorder (e.g. horizontal gaze palsy)
Cerebellar dysfunction (e.g. vertigo, nystagmus, ataxia)
Isolated homonymous hemianopia
cause can be anything
Complications of stroke
