Stripping Specs Flashcards
The pump is rated at how many gpm at what psi?
50gpm at 50psi
What type of pumps does the stripping system use?
Blackmere positive displacement rotary vane pump
How many push rods and vanes does the stripping system have?
3 pushrods and 6 sliding vanes (made of palmite)
What are the 3 major components of the stripping pumps?
Cylinder Head Assembly
Pressure Relief Valve
Rotor and Shaft
Cylinder Head Assembly?
Working area for rotor and shaft
Pressure Relief Control Valve?
Set at 25% of rated capacity.
25%*50=62 1/2 psi
When discharge rises over 62 1/2 psi pump relieves from discharge to suction side.
Rotor & Shaft?
Held in place by tapered pins/ rotor slotted for working area for sliding vanes.
Where can you strip from?
- Service
- Sump
- Stowage
- Contam
Where can you strip to?
- Contam tanks
- Transfer main/Stowage tanks
- Offload
- Overboard
Why strip?
- Remove settled water and sediments at the bottom of tanks (off-loading)
- Remove the last 24” of useable fuel from the stowage tanks when transfer pumps lose suction
- Remove seawater (after deballasting)
- Remove last 24” of fuel from service tanks (off-loading or cleaning)
- Remove wash water
- Remove water from purifier sump tank
Between the 2 stripping pumps, which one has a lovejoy coupling and rex chain coupling?
Stowage stripping has a lovejoy coupling (horizontal)
Service stripping has a rex chain coupling (vertical)
What is the gear reducer’s spin ratio and what does it convert into?
3 to 1 ratio
Converts electric motor speed into manageable pump speed while increasing torque
How close to the bottom is the suction tailpipe for stowage stripping?
1 1/2in near the bottom of tank
How close to the bottom is the suction tailpipe for service stripping?
3/4in near tank bottom
How many set of ball bearings and mechanical seals are there on the stripping pump?
2 sets of ball bearings and 2 mechanical seals
