Detache
Separate bows. Alternating up and down bows
Portato (loure)
Series of notes within a single bow-stroke, each with a slight separation.
Brush strokes
Separate now strokes, now coming off the string slightly, articulated without accent.
Martele
On-the-string staccato. Bow remains on string with clean separation between the notes
Slurred staccato
Separate notes without bow direction change.
Spiccato
Bow bounces off the string for a fast and light staccato.
Staccato volante
Up-bow staccato, includes several notes on one bow stroke.
Saltando
Down-bow spiccato, includes several notes in one bow stroke.
Jete (ricochet bowing)
Bow dropped or thrown against the string, allowing to bounce naturally.
Frog
Bottom of now
Secco
Pizzicato, dryer and more separated.
Snap pizz (bartok pizz)
String plucked hard enough to snap against the fingerboard.
Nail pizz
Using fingernail to snap a pizz note.
