Q
When can hooke’s law not be applied?
A
The equation works as long as the elastic limit is not exceeded.
For example when a spring exceeds it’s elastic limit it will not return to its original shape.
1
Q
What is hooke’s law and what is it used for?
A
Force(N) = spring constant (N/m) x extension (m)
Used to calculate the spring constant of a material
Force is d.p. to extension
2
Q
What is the equation to calculate stress?
A
Stress(Pa) = force(N) / cross sectional area (m^2)
