A

They came up with a three part definition for the word stress.

-Measurable physiological response: must be measurable by someone else

-A desire to avoid the situation: must be perceived as aversive

-A loss of control: the person must not feel in control of the stressor

-Acute stress can boost cardiovascular performance
- Too much adrenaline can scar the insides of your blood vessels
- People that experience chronic stress have a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes
- Heart attacks are caused by the scars that turn into plague blocking the vessels

-We are only built for stress that lasts seconds
- Flight or Fight responses come from your brain’s hypothalamus
- when your sensory detects stress, the hypothalamus signals your adrenal glands to release adrenaline into your blood stream
- Cortisol: wipes out unpleasant aspects of stress, returning us to normal
