Isolate on what agar
Blood agar at 37C
Confirmatory tests
Optochin sensitive
Bile solubility
Commercial tests for the capsule
What is the bile solubility test?
A test to see if the organism can use bile for during cell division. They use enzymes to lyse the cell walls during cell division. The bile salts activate them. Positive results would be where there is lysis on the plate
What kind of organism is S.Pneumonia
Alpha haemolytic, gram positive cocci, catalase negative
