Strain/counterstrain points Flashcards
Inguinal Ligament
Superior surface of the pubic tubercle
flex legs, move opposite leg over tender-leg. Adduct and IR femur
Iliacus (Psoas)
2in inf and 2 in medial from ASIS
“let your legs fall open”
flex, ER legs, then flex and sidbend toward TP
Low ilium
lateral ramus of pubic bone, anterior surface
flex tender leg, abduct as needed
Lateral trochanter
later surface of femur , up to 15cm distal from greater trochanter in the IT band
patient supine, flex, adduct and IR
Posterior lateral trochanter
lateral/posterior surface of greater trochanter
patient supen, extend, abduct, and ER
Posterior medial trochanter
5mm inf to greater trochanter bw the ischial tuberosity and GT
extend leg, ER and adduct across midline
Anterior Lateral Trochanter
5-7 cm lateral and inferior to the ASIS but anterior and superior to the greater trochanter
flex hip, abduct, ER
High ilium sacroiliac
4-5cm lateral to PSIS
extend leg and abduct
Mid pole Sacroilliac (ilium in flare superior) (MPSI)
TP is 3-4 cm inferior to PSIS in the divot in the muscle just lateral to the sacrum. Approach the TP from the lateral side
flex hip, abduct (major) and ER
Piriformis
8-9cm medial and superior to GT
pt prone, suspend leg of table, flex hip, abduct, and ER or IR knee
High Ilium out flare (HIFO)
seen in coccydynia
TP at sacrococcygeal joint or on coccyx
extend affected side with pt prone, adduct
sacral TPs: general
along median crest, along the SPs and TPs
with pt prone apply pressure to opposite side of sacrum from where the TP is located
ex: PS1 TP on R–> push on left ILA
