What happens when storing an unopened wine in the fridge for a long period of time?
The cork dries out, hardens and looses its elasticity

On its side for corked
On its side / Upright for screwcapped
How does exposure to sunlight and artificial light affect wine?
The wine becomes stale and develop a “skunky” sulphurous smell (called light strike)
Does the color of the bottle matter, when speaking of UV?
Yes!
Clear bottles: 3h resistance
Green bottles: 18h resistance
Brown bottles: UV resistant
For what styles of wine do you use an ice bucket?
For whites, rosés and sparklings
How to fill an ice bucket?
It needs to be filled 3/4 full, 1/2 water + 1/2 ice

Tell me the steps of opening a bottle of still wine
- Cut the foil below the lip of the bottle
- Wipe the neck of the bottle with a cloth
- Draw the cork as gently and carefully as possible
- Give the neck of the bottle a final clean inside and out
- Pour sample into glass to check wine condition
Tell me the steps of opening a bottle of sparkling wine
- Remove the foil and losen the wire cage
- Hold the cork and wire cage must always be held in place
- Tilt the bottle at an angle of ~ 30°
- Turn the bottle, not the cork
What pressure is in a bottle of sparkling? Can you lower it?
Pressure of 6 bars, you can lower it by chilling the bottle
What are the benefits of decanting
Removing sediments (deposit) and aerating the wine (esp. the young wine)
Can you explain decanting?
Hold the bottle in front of a light and por carefully into decanter, stop pouring when deposit near neck
How long will wines last when opened?
Sparkling: 1-3 days
Light whites & rosés: 4-5 days
Rich whites: 3-5 days
Red wine: 3-6 days
Port: 1-3 weeks
Sherry: 1-8 weeks
