Story of John 1
-Andrew + John went from John the Baptist to Jesus. -Simon became Peter.
-Order of Disciples: John/Andrew -> Peter -> Philip -> Nathaneal
-Jesus saw Nathaneal under the fig tree.
Story of John 2
-Jesus turns water to wine.
-Jesus clears the temple courts. 46 yrs. to build temple, Jesus rebuild temple in 3 days.
Story of John 3
Jesus teaches Nicodemus. Idea of being born again. Born of flesh/water (normal birth and baptism), and born of the spirit (the holy spirit). John the Baptist testifies for Jesus.
Story of John 4
Jesus’ path: Jerusalem -> Samarita -> Galilee -> Judea.
-Woman at the well of Jacob from Samaria. She’s had 5 husbands, and the one now is not her husband.
-An official found Jesus in Galilee (official from Capernum) and asks for son to be healed. Donezo.
Story of John 5
-Feast of the Jews in Jerusalem. Near Shephard Gate, the pool of Bethesda (healing powers due to spring underneath). One lame man, 38 yrs. Jesus tells him to stand. Jesus persecuted cause it was Saturday.
Story of John 6
-Jesus go Galilee, feeding of 5000. Started with 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fish. Disciples head to sea, Jesus walk on water, scare disciples, immediately on land. Jesus = bread of life, eat His flesh.
Story of John 7
Jesus still in Galilee. Feast of Tabernacles in Judea, brothers want Him to go. Jesus goes in secrete, half-way through feast, Jesus begins teaching in temple. Jews shocked. People split: Jesus is possessed; Jesus cannot be possessed because He does miracles and says amazing things.
Story of John 8
Pharisees bring adulterous woman, first throw without sin. Jesus writes the sin of the onlookers on the ground. Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” If you knew Jesus, you’d know the Father. Abraham’s offspring trying to kill Jesus. Jews think the Samaritans are demons. Try to stone Jesus, but He hid Himself.
Jesus tells the Jew that they are not Abraham’s children, metaphorically.
Story of John 9
Blinded man healed with mud. Washed off mud in the pool of Siloam. Man brought to pharisees cause it was Saturday. Parents don’t wanna answer. Man made pharisees mad, he believes in Jesus.
Story of John 10
Jesus is the Good Shephard. Jesus and The Father are one. People split again if He a demon or not. Followers recognize the shephard. People who don’t enter through the gate are thiefs and robbers. Jesus goes to where John the Baptist was baptizing before.
Story of John 11
The death of Lazarus. Jesus waited. Lazarus dead 4 days. Mary and Martha = Sisters of Lazarus. Jesus wept. Martha came out first, and then Mary. Both believed Lazarus could’ve been saved by Jesus.
Story of John 12
Jesus anointed at Bethany by Mary with perfume fit for Kings. Judas is mad
-Jesus goes to Jerusalem, and is welcomed as a king. Palm branches and shouting hosanna. Jesus predicts His death later.
Story of John 13
Jesus washes His disciples’ feet. Predicts Judas’ and Peter’s betrayal.
Story of John 14
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit. Don’t let your hearts be troubled, Jesus is going ahead to prepare a place for us.
Story of John 15
Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches. God is the gardener. The world will hate us because they hated Jesus first. Holy Spirit = Advocate to testify about Jesus.
Story of John 16
Jesus warns us that we will be kicked out of the synagogue and even killed. Didn’t tell them at first because He was with them. Similar to a woman giving birth, pain -> overwhelming joy.
Story of John 17
Entire chapter is Jesus talking. The world hated God’s word because it was not of this world. Jesus asks for glorification. The world does not know God, but Jesus does.
Story of John 18
Jesus arrested at Kidron Valley. Judas didn’t kiss Him? Peter cut off the right ear of the high priest’s servant, Malchus. Jesus brought to Annas, father in law of Caiaphus. Peter denied Jesus 3 times. Took to Pilate at the end of the chapter, Pilate found no wrong in Him, but the ppl wanted Barabbas, not Jesus.
Story of John 19
Pilate had Jesus flogged and the soldiers made a crown of thorns for Him. Chief priests and officials want Him crucified, but Pilate still has no basis to charge Him with. Jesus permits Pilate to have power over Him. Jewish leaders threaten with Caesar. Crucified at the place of Skull (Aramaic called Golgotha). Sign: Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews. Jesus clothes split, w/ lots thrown for His undergarments. READ.
Story of John 20
Mary Magdalene at tomb early Sunday. Stone had been taken away. Went to Peter and John, John = faster than Peter, but Peter went into the grave first. They left, Mary stayed, met 2 angels in the tomb. Why’re you weeping? Whom are you seeking? Jesus mistaken for a gardener. Mary. Recognized. Rabboni. Do not cling to me, not until ascended. Same day, Jesus appeared to disciples without Thomas. 8 days later, appeared to Thomas. Blessed are those who have not seen but believe.
Story of John 21
Sea of Tiberias, Peter go fishing -> disciples go fishing. That night, caught nothing. In the morning, Jesus, unrecognized, tells them to throw their net on the right side. They do and catch 153 fish. Peter jumps overboard. Jesus forgives Peter, Peter asks about John, why do you care.
