Storage devices - their use, advantages and disadvantages

Hard Disk Drives
A
Use = primary storage in device servers and desktops. Form of magnetic storage. Advantages = large storage capacity, low cost per MB and they're reliable. Disadvantages = slow read/write speed, easy to damage and not portable (heavy and bulky).

Solid State Drives
A
Use = portable storage device
Form of flash memory storage
Advantages = fast read/write speed, consume less power than HDD and less likely to be damaged.
Disadvantages = more expensive per MB, low storage and a finite number of writes.

USB Flash Drive
A
Use = USB connector and flash memory to store data. Advantages = portable, durable and they're highly compatiable. Disadvantages = easily lost, finite number of writes and low storage capacity

SD Cards
A
Use = storage for digital cameras and smart phones. Advantages = small and portable, durable although flimsy. Disadvantages = low storage, poor compatibility.

Optical Disks
A
Use = storing music, films, tv and software for distribution. Advantages = highly compatible, portable. Disadvantages = low storage, easy to damage.
