Q

What are storage spaces

A

New approach to storage
•Software defined
•Treat collection of disks as Just a Bunch of Disks (JBOD)
•Create storage pool from physical disks
•Create virtual disks from pool
•Virtual disks can be configured for higher performance or fault tolerance

Q

What are storage space advantages?

A
  • Pools of storage dont have to be identical
  • more effiecent due to thin provisioning
  • can easily expand or contract the pool
  • Eliminate expensive disk controllers

Q

Storage space disadvantages?

A

cpu is much more heavily taxed
- processor was handled by disk controller
less proven and understood
- you still need to provide IOP’s and availability
Thin provision storage must be more frequently monitored
