files are given a name and the files are organized in folders, directories and sub-directories. This is easy to use and can get difficult over time.
File based storage.
Files are split into chunks of data, of equal size, and stored in raw storage volumes.
Block storage
Type of storage typically used by server-based operating systems that manage large volumes

Storage where files are given unique identifiers and are stored in a flat memory model
