Stomata Differentiation Flashcards
What steps in stomatal development are regulated by SPEECHLESS
Initiation of the the asymmetric division of the meristemoid mother cell to produce the meristemoid
What steps in stomatal development are regulated MUTE?
Differentiation of the meristemoid to produce the guard mother cell
What steps in stomatal development are regulated by FAMA?
Initiates the symmetric division of the guard mother cell to produce the guard cells
What would a loss of function for SPEECHLESS look like?
Asymmetric division of meristemoid mother cell does not take place; no guard cells form
What would a loss of function for MUTE look like?
Cells stay in meristemoid mother cell fate – more asymmetric divisions than WT – rosette pattern of cells surrounding a small, arrested meristemoid-like cell
What would a loss of function for FAMA look like?
Guard mother cell divides symmetrically many times instead of just once, guard cells do not divide. Results in rows of cells in the epidermis
What would a overexpression for FAMA look like?
All cells develop as single unpaired guard cells
What would a overexpression for MUTE look like?
All epidermal cells develop as symmetrically paired guard cells
What would a overexpression for SPEECHLESS look like?
Pavement cells divide excessively, many cells with meristemoid mother cell fate
