stomata Flashcards
function of stomata?
open and close to let carbon dioxide in for photosynthesis
parts of stomata?
-guard cell (shrunken = closed , swollen = open stoma)
-nucleus
-cell wall
-chloroplasts
-vacuole
-stoma
what is transpiration?
when water evaporates into air spaces in the leaf and then diffuses out of the leaf through the stoma
stomata cycle in the day?
1- plant receives plenty of light and water = more photosynthesis
2- concentration of glucose in guard cell increases
3- water moves into guard cell by osmosis
4- guard cells become turgid and stomata opens.
stomata cycle at night?
1- no photosynthesis due to no sunlight
2- concentration of glucose decreases in the guard cell
3- water moves out of the guard cells
4- guard cell becomes flaccid and stomata closes.
what is translocation?
the movement of sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant through the phloem
