- To protect distal anastamoses when removing CRC
- Can be reversed
- Most often in lower right abdomen
- Two lumens
- Spouted
- Liquid stool contents

Colostomy
A
- After APR
- Permanent
- Most often in lower left abdomen
- Flush with skin
- Produces stool just like an anus

Urostomy
A
- Allow drainage of urine from kidney, bypassing the ureter, bladder and urethra
- Ileal conduit urinary diversion - section of ileum taken and anastamosed to the ureters and the other end to the skin
