Stoichiometry Flashcards
Atomic Mass?
Mass of an atom in atomic mass units (amu)
What is the Atomic Mass Unit?
A mass exactly equal to one-twelfth the mass of one carbon-12 atom.
Define the Mole.
the amount of a substance that contains as many elementary entities (atoms, molecules, or other particles) as there are atoms in exactly 12g of the carbon-12 isotope.
What is Avogadro’s Number?
It is equal to one mole and is 6.0221415 *10^23
What is Molar Mass ?
The mass of 1 mole of units of a substance
What is the Percent Composition?
The percent by mass of each element in a compound.
Percent composition of an element =
n*molar mass of element/molar mass of compound * 100%
What is a Chemical Reaction?
A process in which a substance is changed into one or more new substances.
A chemical equation?
uses chemical symbols to show what happens during a chemical reaction.
What are Reactants?
The starting materials in a chemical reaction
What is the Product?
The substance formed as a result of a chemical reaction.
Stoichiometry is?
The quantitative study of reactants and products in a chemical reaction
Mole Method?
The coefficients in a chemical equation can be interpreted as the number of moles of each substance.
Stoichiometric Amounts
The proportions indicated by the balanced equation.
What is the Limiting Reagent?
The reactant used up first in a reaction.
