it has caused extermination of large groups of people defined ethnically, geographically or religiously
What happens with felt stigma?
it may cause individuals to avoid their own disease symptoms or the symptoms of a loved one
this can delay treatment

the process of attempting to avoid, suppress, or deny stimuli that give rise to discomfort
Why doesn’t obesity provoke empathy?
b/c obese people are perceived as being weak, self-indulgent, or immoral
