Best way to clear fouled plugs in run up?

A

Throttle 2200 (fullish) to run air through
Lean mixture - slowly rotate out to starve fuel
Wait 15-20 seconds (blows carbon off plugs)

*more common in older engines / 152s

A

1/2 shot prime and one throttle pump

Flooded engine start

A

Mixture - idle cut off
Full power throttle
(This pushes excess fuel out exhaust)
Crank!
When fuel / air ratio balanced and engine begins firing, mixture rich and pull throttle back to idle

*caused by overpriming or after successive start attempts in cold weather

Turn off master
Turn off lights / unnecessarily electric
Toggle alt (left side of master) on and off
If alt reboots ammeter shows +
If shows flicker (-) must do a no flap / no radio landing

Landing- watch VSI, use eyes, ears, butt to feel pitch and use familiar power settings

Comfortable? Do it. Drop power on downwind and flap 10/20/30
Uncomfortable? “Unable” and they will extend my downwind
