What is the enamel?

What is distal?
The surface that is away from the midline of the face.
What is mesial?
The surface that is closest to the midline of the face.
What is facial?
The surface that faces the cheeks or lips.
What is Labial?
The surface towards the lips.
What is Buccal?
The surface towards the cheeks.
What is Incisal?
The biting edge of an anterior tooth
What is Lingual?
The surface that faces the tongue.
What is Occlusal?
The chewing surface of posterior teeth.

Tooth surfaces that are next to each other.
What are occlusal radiographs?
Images of the top front and/or bottom front primary teeth to identify decay, infection, trauma, extra and/or missing teeth.
What size should be used for an occlusal radiograph?

When should occlusal radiographs be taken?
Ideally at first visit and then 1x year after
What are bitewings?
Images of the back teeth that are used to detect decay between teeth.
When are bitewings taken?
At every visit unless parent states otherwise.
When a child has high caries risk, when does the ADA recommend taking bitewings?

Where do bitewings need to be taken?
Distal of canines and be able to see interproximally (In between) teeth.
What is a periapical x-ray?
Image of a single tooth and its root.
What should you be able to see on a PA X-ray?
The apex and the 2-3mm past it.
What is a PA x-ray used for?
To see pathology and abscesses.
When do you take a PA x-ray?
Notice abscess of is patient is complaining of pain.
What is a panoramic x-ray?
Image taken of the entire mouth (jaw, joints, sinuses)
At what age is a pano x-ray taken?
6-7
Whenever 1st permanent molars start to erupt and central incisors start to erupt.
If a pt has state insurance, when do you take a pano x-ray?
3 years
If a pt has private insurance, when do you take a pano x-ray?

What is a Unilateral Spacer?
Helps to maintain space, so a specific space does not close.
When to use a UNI Space?
When a tooth needs extracted and permanent tooth has a while or years to erupt

Oral Hygiene Instructions
Step #1 for Sealants
Place bite block and dry angle in mouth.
Step #2 for Sealants
Place cotton rolls by the tongue to help isolate the tooth tissue
Step #3 for Sealants
Dry off teeth with air
Step #4 for Sealants
Place etch and let etch sit for 15 seconds
Step #5 for Sealants
Clean off tooth with water and HVE and dry off with air after
Step #6 for Sealants
Scrub bond into tooth for 5-10 seconds. Then completely dry the etch
Step #7 for Sealants
Place Sealant material on the grooves of the teeth.
Step #8 for Sealants
Cure for 30-60 seconds, then check it is solid with the explorer, check with floss to make sure no sealant material is stuck interproximal.
