Sterile Compounding Training Flashcards
What must all individuals who participate in sterile compounding show competency in?
1) Hand Hygiene
2) Garbing
3) Post-Garbing Fingertip and Thumb Test
4) Aseptic Processing (Media fill and gloved fingertip and thumb test.)
How often should hand hygiene testing be performed?
Category 1 = 6 months
Category 2 = 6 months
Category 3 = 3 months
How often should garbing and gloving technique testing be performed?
Category 1 = 6 months
Category 2 = 6 months
Category 3 = 3 months
What agar is used for the gloved fingertip and thumb test?
Trypticase Soy Agar (TSA) which has been neutralized.
How is the gloved fingertip and thumb test performed?
1) Collection of glove and finger tip samples on agar.
2) Incubate for 7 days.
3) Inspect for growth (in colony forming units)
What are the two tests used to measure gloved fingertip and thumb test?
Part 1= Post- Garbing: Demonstrates ability to garb without contaminating yourself.
Part 2= Post-Media Fill: Demonstrates ability to maintain asepsis during compounding.
How many times must the gloved test be completed after garbing?
3 times
Only 1 time for the media fill test.
How often should the gloved fingertip and thumb test be tested again for requalification?
Category 1 = 6 months
Category 2 = 6 months
Category 3 = 3 months
How is the media fill test performed?
1) The drug product is replaced with sterile culture media, and compounding is performed.
2) The media is incubated for two weeks after testing.
Pass: No turbidity or color change upon incubation.
Frequency of Media Fill Test
Category 1 = 6 months
Category 2 = 6 months
Category 3 = 3 months
