What is an attitude?
An attitude is an evaluation that is either positive or negative of an attitude object (person, object, event, idea)
What do the A, B, C attitudes stand for?
Affective attitude, behavioural attitude, cognitive attitude
what does cognitive attitude refer to
beliefs, thoughts, attributions that we associate with an object
how can you prevent discrimination?
through education, intergroup contact, cognitive interventions, superordinate goals and direct experience
what does an affective attitude refer to?
feelings or emotions about the attitude object
what is the difference between situational and personal attributions
situational attributes refer to real-life circumstances whereas personal is based on relationships or personal experiences
what are the types of discrimination?
reluctant to help, tokenism, reverse discrimination
what is scapegoating
blaming someone else because you upset

what is the difference between prejudice and discrimination?
prejudice is judging a group negatively based on insufficient information (an attitude) whereas discrimination is acting on the negative attitude
what are the different types of prejudice?
sexism, racism, homophobia, religious prejudice, cultural
what is the effect of prejudice
it can influence the attitude of minorities, rub off onto the community and cause rivalry or cause tension within certain groups
