what happens at step 6
Auscultation of the chest
running order
hearts valves
lungs
What four valves are we auscultating ?
Aortic
pulmonary
tricuspid
mitral
the four valves where are we ascultating and which side of the stethoscope ?
The aortic valve at the 2nd ICS right sternal edge
pulmonary valve at the 2nd ICS left sternal edge
tricuspid valve 4 ICS lower left sternal edge
mitral valve 5th ICS mid clavicular line
Use the diaphragm then do with the bell
what are we looking for when listening to the valves?
murmers
what should we do if we detect a murmer ? why?
ask the patient to take a deep breath and expire as this extenuates the murmer.
What should we doo for the mitral valve? why?
lean to the left side and expire as it will extenuate the murmer.
Where are we ascultatiing the lungs and what for and what can these indicate in regards to the cardio.
lungs 2nd 4th and 6th ICS
listen for coarse crackles for pulmonary oedema which is secondary to left ventricular hypertrophy
