Step 1 Confirmation Flashcards
When do you do a discontinued approach? What is the procedure?
When you are above the go around altitude and you wish to discontinue the approach.
1) Announce “CANCEL APPROACH”
2) Disarm AP/FD Approach Mode – APPR / LOC Pb o Select Lateral Mode – NAV / HDG
3) Select Vertical Mode – VS / LEVEL OFF
4) Select and Adjust – SPEED
What are the meanings of the blue and yellow markings painted around damage on the aircraft?
Blue markings indicate damage which is within normal limits.
Yellow markings indicate damage which requires monitoring over time.
What do the following codes in METAR mean - MI, BC, PR, DR, BL?
MI - Mist BC - Patches PR - Partial DR - Drifting (below 2 metres) BL - Blowing (above 2 metres)
Meaning of BECMG and TEMPO on TAF?
BECMG is used when any phenomenon is changing
uniformly throughout the referred period (1 ~ 4 hours), or
not changing uniformly for several moments in this period,
then the conditions are stabilized for the rest of this period.
The following three occasions are represented by the change
indicator of BECMG and valid period of Y YGG/YeYeGeGe.
• TEMPO is used when temporary changes are frequent in any meteorological conditions, while each change lasts less than one hour, and a total period of the forecasted conditions will last less than half the valid period.
Differences between CEO and NEO? (ENG, FMS, SOFT GA
Mode)
What is EDCT valid window?
It is a window of time that an aircraft must takeoff within. It is used to help ATC control traffic at busy departure airports.
Details on EDCT valid window?
RM Yellow Pages Regional information - Japan
What does EDCT VOID and EDCT Cancelled mean?
EDCT Void means that your EDCT time is void and you must wait for a new EDCT time to be assigned.
EDCT cancelled means that operation of the EDCT system has been cancelled (emergency, weather, ATC etc.)
What is VR?
The rotation speed. Rotating at this speed will allow reaching V2 by the screen height in case of an engine failure.
What is V2?
Takeoff safety speed which is achieved by 35ft (dry) 15ft (wet) with one engine failed and maintained during the second segment of the climb profile.
Minimum 1.13 VS
What is V1?
Takeoff decision speed. The highest speed at which the flight crew has a choice to reject the takeoff.
What is Vmu?
The minimum unstick speed. Determined during flight testing by dragging the tail on the ground and waiting for the aircraft to become airborne.
Explain Vls, S, F and Green Dot speeds?
Characteristic speeds, calculated by FAC.
Vls - lowest selectable speed. Top of the amber strip on PFD speed scale. 1.23 VS after retraction of one step of flaps. 1.28 VS CONF 0
‘F’ - The minimum speed at which flaps may be retracted. Target speed CONF 2 or 3
‘S’ - The minimum speed at which the slats may be retracted. 1.23 VS in CONF 0 (minimum VMCL+20)
GDS - Engine out operating speed (best lift drag) Final takeoff speed
Meaning of hand signals with ground engineer? (Emergency stop, park brake, fire, engine start/stop)
Alcohol check implementation procedures. Limitations, timing, procedures?
Maximum 2 units of alcohol 12 hours before flight duty period. One unit is 500ml can of beer etc. Pre-alcohol check, confirm with alcohol controller before sign on. Alcohol check at sign on. Alcohol check if flight turnaround time interval exceeds 2 hours. After flight alcohol check.
