What is a stem cell niche ?
A
Environment that regulates everything about a stem cell. It can be very diverse.
It’s the environment that keeps a stem cell, a stem cell -> what’s keeping it maybe in G0, what’s allowing it to self-renew, and what’s regulating the fate of their daughters. The daughters can be part of the niche and gives feedback to the SC.
It’s includes all the signals that received the cell. Those from blood vessel, sometimes neurons (in the hippocampus), from the extracellular matrix, those from the physical forces, those from the topographical info (3D distribution) or those from daughter cell feeding back.
It’s all the surrounding environment of a stem cell
